Nahid Rana’s five-wicket haul restricts New Zealand to 198 in second ODI

Bangladesh’s rising pace star Nahid Rana delivered an outstanding bowling performance, claiming five wickets to dismiss New Zealand for 198 in the second one-day international held in Dhaka on Monday.

After opting to bat first, New Zealand struggled to build momentum and were bowled out in 48.4 overs despite entering the match with a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Rana, aged 23, showcased exceptional control and aggression, bowling in four separate spells and making immediate impact at the start of each, ultimately securing his second five-wicket haul in ODI cricket.

Supporting him effectively, left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam finished with figures of 2-32 in his full quota of overs, including a key breakthrough to remove the top scorer.

Additional contributions came from Taskin Ahmed, Soumya Sarkar, and leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, who picked up one wicket each to maintain consistent pressure on the opposition.

New Zealand’s innings was largely anchored by opener Nick Kelly, who scored a resilient 83 runs, marking his first half-century in ODIs. His innings featured 14 boundaries and stood out in an otherwise underwhelming batting display.

No other batter managed to cross the 20-run mark, with Muhammad Abbas contributing 19 as the next highest score.

The foundation for Bangladesh’s dominance was laid early by Shoriful Islam, who delivered a disciplined opening spell, conceding just 17 runs in six overs while bowling 29 dot balls to keep the scoring in check.

Rana further tightened the grip during his initial spell, striking twice within his first five overs to put New Zealand under sustained pressure.
